Repurposed Light: Where Utility Becomes Art

There’s something quietly powerful about objects that were never meant to be beautiful.

They were built to serve a purpose — to project sound, to secure a door, to exist within the rhythm of everyday life. And yet, over time, something changes. Surfaces soften. Edges wear. Materials begin to tell a story.

This is where Old Soul Provisions begins.

In this collection of repurposed lighting, two very different pieces share a common thread: transformation without erasure — a process I return to again and again in my work. I’m drawn to objects that have lived a life, and rather than redefine them completely, I look for ways to carry their story forward into something new.

The first, an antique gramophone speaker dating to the 1920s, once carried music into a room — voices, instruments, moments of connection. Reimagined as a light, it continues that role in a quieter way. Instead of melody, it now offers atmosphere. A gentle glow replaces sound, creating a sense of harmony that feels just as present, just as intentional.

The second piece, assembled from vintage hardware plates, reflects another side of my process — composition. Each panel once served a specific purpose, likely unnoticed in its time. Now, brought together, they create something entirely new. I look for balance in contrast — varied finishes, subtle imperfections, and the quiet rhythm that forms when disparate elements find their place together.

What draws me to this work is not just originality, but honesty.

Nothing is over-restored. Nothing is disguised. The past remains visible — just reimagined.

Repurposed lighting has a way of changing more than just a room. It shifts the feeling of a space. It introduces depth, character, and a sense of calm — almost like a visual form of music, steady and grounding.

These are the stories I’m always searching for — and the ones I hope to share.

Built slowly. Curated intentionally.
